Goals and Objectives
EDUCATION: ACADEMIC PROGRAMS & INSTRUCTION
Goal 1: Prepare leaders in public health science and practice to address current and future public health challenges
Measurable objectives:
- At least 90% of master degree students graduate within 4 years
- At least 90% of FT doctoral degree students graduate within 7 years
- At least 90% of PT DrPH students graduate within 9 years
- Among those full-time PhD students who passed their preliminary oral exam, 90% are within 3 years of matriculation
- Among students and alumni who take the NBPHE exam, 100% will pass
Goal 2: Promote, value, and achieve excellence in teaching and learning
Measurable objectives:
- Primary instructors will be rated as excellent or good for at least 85% of regular on-campus and on-line courses
- Total student-to-primary faculty ratio will be less than 5
- Doctoral student-to-primary faculty ratio will be less than 2
- SPH will renovate and update at least 3 classrooms annually
- Renovate at least 3 research laboratory spaces yearly
RESEARCH, PRACTICE, AND SERVICE
Goal 1: Advance and translate research leading to the discovery of knowledge to improve population health throughout the world
Measurable objectives:
- More than 2,000 publications in the SCOPUS database will be attributed to one or more SPH faculty annually
- At least 1,000 sponsored project proposals will be submitted by faculty annually
- Of all sponsored project proposals submitted, at least 42% will be funded annually
- Of all DHHS sponsored project proposals submitted, at least 25% will be funded
- Sponsored projects will be implemented in all 6 WHO regions of the world
Goal 2: Advance the evidence base for the practice of public health and strengthen local, national, and global partnerships with public health practitioners
Measurable objectives:
- At least 30 % percent of funded projects will collaborate with a health department
- At least 40 % percent of funded projects will collaborate with an NGO
- Total enrollment in MOOC courses offered by SPH faculty will exceed 1.5M annually
- At least 30 MOOCs will be developed by SPH faculty by 2016
- SPH will receive at least 425,000 hits on SPH OpenCourseWare
FACULTY AND STUDENTS
Goal 1: Recruit and retain diverse, outstanding faculty and students
Measurable objectives:
- Faculty composition of underrepresented minority groups will be equal or greater than those populations in the country
- Maintain 50% female faculty leadership
- Student composition of underrepresented minority groups will be equal or greater than those populations in the state
- At least 95% of professorial faculty will have earned a doctoral degree
- Primary instructors will be rated as excellent or good for at least 85% of regular on-campus and on-line courses
- Less than 5 primary professorial faculty will leave SPH for reasons other than death or retirement
- 100% of search committees will have a meeting with a CEDC representative to discuss recruitment of diverse applicants
- More than 15% of individuals invited for an interview during primary professorial searches will be URM
Goal 2: Empower faculty and students to achieve excellence in public health scholarship and practice
Measurable objectives:
- More than 10% primary faculty will participate in a faculty Writing Accountability Group (WAG)
- All departments will have a faculty mentoring program
THE SCHOOL AND ITS ENVIRONMENT
Goal 1: Sustain a thriving academic community and environment that embraces diversity in expertise and interests
Measurable objectives:
- At least 300 faculty from other JHU divisions will hold joint appointments in SPH to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in teaching, reach and practice
- At least 100 primary faculty will hold joint appointments in other SPH departments to foster interdisciplinary collaboration in teaching, research and practice.
Goal 2: Enhance and enrich our unique ties and obligations to the Baltimore community
Measurable objectives:
- The School will have a project in all 24 Maryland counties
- SPH will engage the Baltimore community by having at least 30% of practicum placements in this region
- SPH will embrace the global mission by having at least 20% of practicum placements in international settings
- Number of students who register for in service-learning courses and provide service to the Baltimore metropolitan community
- Increase the number of courses that have service learning components
- Number of students involved in SOURCE volunteer projects will be at least 500 per year
Goal 3: Raise awareness of public health in the global community
Measurable objectives:
- Continue to collaborate with global partners by having research and/or practice activities in all 6 WHO regions of the world
- Expand our educational resources through hits on Open Courseware courses
- Expand our Global footprint through MOOC enrollments
