Global Health Forum 2023: Geopolitics and Health Security

On September 6, 2023, the School of Global Health from Chulalongkorn University’s Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Thai Red Cross Society, held the Global Health Forum 2023 on the 12th floor of the Bhumisiri Mankhalanusorn Building, with focus on Geopolitics and Health Security. The forum was opened with welcome remarks from Dr. Tej Bunnag, Secretary General of the Thai Red Cross Society, and Professor Suttipong Wacharasindhu, M.D., Executive Committee of the School of Global Health of Chulalongkorn University, and a keynote address by Dr. Jate Ratanachina, from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, and Chula Medical Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (CMICe).
The forum consisted of four panels:
- “Navigating the Current Geopolitical Landscape” by Assistant Professor Dr. Pongphisoot Busbarat, Director of the Institute of Security & International Studies (ISIS Thailand), from the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University.
- “Wars and Conflicts: Population Health Challenges” by Dr. Piya Hanvoravongchai, M.D., M.Sc, Sc.D., from the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University.
- “Geopolitics and Humanitarian Challenges in Southeast Asia: Accounts from the Thai-Myanmar Border” by Dr. Bhanubhatra Jittiang, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University.
- “One (Human) Health: Cross-border Infectious Disease and Human-Animal Relation” by Dr. Jiraporn Laocharoenwong from the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University.
