This collaborative webinar between Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and Chulalongkorn University (Thailand) reviews core principles of adolescent development and how neurobiological and psychosocial changes contribute to vulnerability to mental health problems. This includes providing a structured approach to universal and targeted screening using tools such as the PHQ-9 and protocols for risk assessment (including suicidality). Case studies and discussions from Thailand, the United States, and Botswana illustrate real-world implementation, cross-cultural considerations, and the role of primary pediatric providers in detection, brief intervention, and referral. This session emphasizes feasible strategies for low-resource and high-volume clinics and highlights opportunities for quality improvement and innovation in adolescent mental health care.

- Apply brief validated tools (e.g., PHQ-9) and structured protocols to screen adolescents for depression and suicide risk in routine care
