The School of Global Health, Faculty of Medicine, Chulalongkorn University, successfully organized the Thailand Heat Governance Forum 2026 on 28 August 2026, bringing together representatives from government, academia, communities, and international partners to strengthen dialogue on Thailand’s growing heat challenges.
The forum explored the impacts of extreme heat across health, labor, agriculture, urban environments, and disaster management. Key discussions highlighted the need to:
🔹 Strengthen cross-sectoral and national–local coordination in heat governance.
🔹 Improve heat monitoring, early warning, risk assessment, and epidemiological evidence to support timely action.
🔹 Protect vulnerable populations and high-risk workers, including farmers, outdoor workers, and platform delivery riders.
🔹 Integrate heat adaptation into agriculture, occupational safety, urban planning, social protection, and health services.
🔹 Move from reactive responses toward anticipatory and predictive preparedness, including heat-risk forecasting and trigger-based financing.
🔹 Strengthen community resilience, recognizing the important role of local communities and volunteers in responding to heat.
🔹 Ensure that technological and policy interventions consider livelihoods, human behavior, and potential unintended consequences.
The discussions also emphasized the importance of defining heat exposure appropriately and recognizing that conventional heat indices may not fully capture conditions experienced by outdoor workers, including the effects of radiant heat.
