CU-Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology (PGH) International Fellowship

Overview

The CU-Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology (PGH) International Fellowship program is designed to provide an immersive learning experience for international pediatric trainees interested in specializing in PGH. This program offers participants the opportunity to:

ㆍ Observe and participate in the interactive discussion at the GI and Hepatology clinics, and case consultation at wards
ㆍWork alongside leading PGH specialists in Thailand, learning advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, e.g. GI endoscopy, motility tests
ㆍ Attend lectures, workshops, and grand rounds on a wide range of PGH topics.
ㆍ Participate in research projects and contribute to the advancement of PGH knowledge.
ㆍ Immerse themselves in the rich cultural and academic environment of Chulalongkorn University and Bangkok, Thailand.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Perform comprehensive medical history and physical examinations of children with PGH disorders.
  • Utilize advanced diagnostic tools for PGH conditions, such as endoscopy, ultrasound, and liver biopsy.
  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans for a variety of PGH diseases.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families about PGH conditions.
  • Conduct research on PGH topics and contribute to the scientific literature.

Program Structure

  • Pediatric trainees who are currently enrolled in a PGH fellowship program in their home country / General Pediatricians.
  • Excellent academic standing and strong clinical skills.
  • Fluency in English.

What to learn

The program consists of a combination of clinical rotations, didactic sessions, and research opportunities. Participants will rotate through the following clinical areas:

  • Pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology clinic. This clinic provides care for children with a wide range of PGH disorders, such as inflammatory bowel disease, liver diseases, and malnutrition.
  • Liver transplant clinic and medical review board for liver transplant eligibility. Participants will learn about the indication and process of liver transplantation including the holistic approach to the family of liver transplant candidates.
  • Endoscopy unit. Participants will gain experience in learning tips/tricks and interpreting upper and lower endoscopy procedures.
  • Pediatric inpatient ward. Participants will have an opportunity to attend the ward round and consultation for problems in gastroenterology and hepatology.

Didactic sessions will cover a variety of topics in PGH, including:

  • Gastrointestinal physiology and pathophysiology,
  • Diagnosis and management of common PGH disorders,
  • Nutritional management of PGH diseases, and
  • Pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition case conferences.

Participants are welcome to take part in the ongoing research projects under the guidance of experienced faculty members.

Flexibility Note

For the applicants interested in taking a shorter training course in specific areas of pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology including a research opportunity, a special arrangement can be provided upon request.
