International Training Program in Sleep Medicine

Overview

This international training program in sleep medicine is designed for the trainees to gain a comprehensive understanding of the knowledge, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with sleep disorders, and develop the ability to communicate effectively with patients, their families, and other healthcare professionals. They should be skilled in interpreting sleep studies and dedicated to upholding ethical principles and professional responsibilities, with sensitivity to patients from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, the trainee should strive for continuous learning and improvement in patient care, participate actively in outpatient evaluations and inpatient consultations across a broad spectrum of sleep disorders, and embrace a multidisciplinary approach to patient management. Furthermore, the trainee is encouraged to complete a clinical research project with the objective of publication upon completing the fellowship.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the program, participants will be able to:

  • Clinical Proficiency: Develop expertise in diagnosing and managing a diverse range of adult and pediatric sleep disorders, including sleep-disordered breathing, insomnia, parasomnias, restless legs syndrome, and hypersomnia disorders
  • Interpretative Skills: Gain advanced training in conducting and interpreting diagnostic studies such as polysomnography, portable sleep monitors, and actigraphy in adult and pediatric populations.
  • Research Excellence: Engage in clinical research projects focusing on sleep medicine under faculty mentorship, to produce publishable work and present findings at professional conferences.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Actively participate in multidisciplinary clinical settings, working with specialists in pulmonary medicine, neurology, psychiatry, ENT, and dentistry to provide comprehensive care.
  • Professional and Ethical Standards: Enhance communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams. Demonstrate ethical practice and cultural competence while committing to lifelong learning in sleep medicine.

Who Should Apply

  • The program is intended for Internists (Board in Internal Medicine), neurologists and pulmonologists who want to further their sleep medicine knowledge and skills.

What to learn

During the training program, attendees will gain academic knowledge and clinical experiences in sleep medicine which include

       A. Clinic/Clinical work
         – Sleep disorders clinic attendance
         – Adult and pediatric polysomnographic interpretation
         – Inpatient sleep disorders consultation
        – Multidisciplinary clinic attendance: pulmonary medicine, otolaryngology, paediatrics, neurology, and dental maxillofacial surgery
         – Research experience

         B.  Academic knowledge and activities
            – Sleep medicine activity (lecture, journal club, case discussion, topic review) Tuesday  9.00-10.00
            – Sleep medicine activity (lecture, topic review) on Wednesday 9.00-12.00.

Submit your ​application directly to the School of Global Health ( school.global.health@chula.md ). A supporting letter reflecting the need to attend the course is required from the affiliated institution. The final candidate selection is based on his/her resume and interview performance. No tuition fee is charged except the accepted candidate needs to register at Chulalongkorn University

Course of Duration and Number of Attendees

Course duration is 6 months commencing from Jan 1st to June 30st, with up to 3 attendees per year
